2017 Bud Browne Surf Film Award: Shorebreak: The Clark Little Story
It is with great pride that the Bud Browne Film Archives presents the Bud Browne Surf Film Award at the 2017 Waimea Ocean Film Festival. The line up of this year’s surf films were extraordinary. After careful consideration, the film we felt mirrors most of what this year’s award stands for-inspiration, innovation, and a leap of faith-is the film, Shorebreak: The Clark Little Story. Shorebreak: The Clark Little Story, represents all that Bud Browne, father of the surf film genre, stood for and resonated deeply with us. Our congratulations and heartfelt mahalo for sharing such an inspirational story!
The first Bud Browne Surf Award was presented at the 2016 Waimea Ocean Film Festival. The award was presented by Anna Trent Moore, curator of the Bud Browne film archives. In presenting the inaugural award, Anna Trent Moore noted:
Bud Browne, the father of the surf film, captured the ethos of his time. It is in this spirit that we at the Bud Browne Film Archives have selected the recipient of this year’s Bud Browne Surf Film Award. Capturing the daring, spirit, and passion of surfing in today’s time, we have selected the film Nazaré Calling.
