The Festival Program comes together through a year of intensive effort, and is carefully crafted with films and programs designed to appeal to a wide range of interests and backgrounds. Film submission is by invitation only and award-winning films are sought from around the world, to bring the best of the year’s films back to the Big Island.
Films fall into general categories of Ocean Experience (surfing, paddling, sailing, being on the water), Ocean Environment (which includes films linking how what we do on land affects the sea, as well as films and programs which are generally informative and educational about the ocean environment and the creatures who live there), and Island Culture (films about the history and culture of Hawai’i as well as about other island-faring people). In addition, the program incorporates films that are inspirational in nature, or about people doing great things, in addition to films of epic adventure.
The Festival Schedule presents an exciting and non-stop matrix of films, speakers, Breakfast Talks, exhibits and presentations shared across seven exceptional venues.
