The Waimea Ocean Film Festival was launched in 2011 with a mission “to bring a greater understanding of the ocean environment and island culture, plus build awareness that everything we do on land affects the sea, including the people whose livelihood and subsistence depends on the health of the ocean environment.”
With a rich and dynamic program, the Waimea Ocean Film Festival brings a high powered and non-stop program of films, speakers, exhibits, Breakfast Talks and special events to exceptional venues on the Big Island each January, including some of the most stunning resorts in the world. Films fall into general categories of Ocean Experience, Ocean Environment, and Island Culture, including films which look at how what we do on land impacts the sea.
In 2017, films, programs and speakers were hosted January 2-5 at multiple venues in Waimea, the Mauna Kea Resort and the Fairmont Orchid, Hawaiʻi before moving January 6-10 to Four Seasons Resort Hualālai.
The 2018 Festival Program will be available for download from the website around Dec. 20, 2017. For a sense and feel of the festival and festival schedule, please view the 2017 Festival Program.
